The study of the subject leads to two very different worlds: the world of radio wave propagation, which is characterized by many years of experience in dealing with transceivers, antennas and the influence of the transferable knowledge from practical physics. In this way, approximations to the characteristics of the bands from the short wave to the gigahertz range are cast into easily understandable radio weather forecasts, which convey a delicate sense of security and understanding.
The other world of pure science has become more and more diversified in the last few years, and has come into the know-how which makes it difficult for the scientists concerned to get a holistic picture of reality. Using the ionosphere as an example, knowledge from the fields of atomic, plasma, nuclear physics and magneto-hydrodynamics are linked. And these results are very difficult for the committed OM to decipher and classify. Nor can these phenomena be described with simple mathematics.
Eric. P. Nichols builds a bridge between these two worlds. It is not a straight path, since it has to pass stations from the atom to the space. But he has provided a handrail where one can slowly move along without great knowledge, in order to demystify at least parts of the ionosphere.
